I have officially published 21 ebooks. However, it dawned on me recently that I just published the eleventh Dreams novel. Eleven of them… and people still pay me to read them. That’s just mind-blowing.
And it makes me worry. Every series I have ever loved has hit a point where I stopped reading them because I got bored with them. I’m wondering if I will know when I have hit that point with my own series.
How many books can actually exist in the Dreams and Reality series before it begins loosing readers? I try to have plots for each book and then large subplots that cover several books. The Butcher covered the first six. Mutilated Dreams started the new large subplot that was revealed to the readers in Fortified Dreams. I figure that will take several books to get through. But when that plot is finished?
Each book I worry that I’ve gone too far. Or reached that point where the series has nothing left that’s new and unique.
This is true for every series I write. I constantly worry about the next book and a series overall. I realized it with the Strachan Series. However, I have more attachment to the Dysfunctional Chronicles and the Dreams & Reality series, which makes me worry that I won’t see that line racing towards me.
This is one of things writers worry about.
I got to that point with my LKH Anita Blake books but I haven’t with any of yours yet. I can honestly tell you that I read and re read every single one in order and I enjoy them each time. After finishing this last one I started over again with tortured dreams and still read every word of every chapter . Please don’t stop! I will be lost when/if you do .

I have no intention of stopping. I just occasionally wonder if I will know when the series is no longer entertaining my readers and I’m losing them like other series have lost me. There are still plenty of Cain stories to be told and serial killers to be caught.

I don’t intend to stop anytime soon. I just hope I know and have the guts to end the series before the readers start hating it.

As far as I am concerned with Fortified Dreams you just proved you have not reached that point yet.

I’ve gotten that way with some series, but after 11 books have not even considered it with this one. My concern is that you will stop writing them. Please don’t worry about over saturation. It’s like the field of dreams. If it involves Ace, Malachi, and the rest of the team, if you write it, we will read it.

I was literally so upset when I realized there was no 11th book yet…. I’ve read your entire series in one week and I work full time and have two small children. Please keep going with this series .. I read a ton of books and this series by far is in my top 5.
