Body Butter Recipe

I used a wide mouth pint jar to put my body butter in and set it in my bathroom when I finished it. This recipe will make just over 16 ounces. I’m not sure how long this will store (I expect I’ll go through my pint in less than 3 months), I think a pint will store in the fridge for about a year give or take a few months. Outside of the fridge, it will not last as long since it has no preservatives. However, since it contains no water it will take longer to grow mold and bacteria than homemade lotions.

Recipe:

  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 cup avocado oil
  • 1/4 cup grape seed oil
  • 1/4 cup shea butter
  • 2 tablespoons beeswax
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • Aloe Vera oil
  • Vitamin E oil
  • Vitamin D Oil
  • essential oil for fragrance

In double boiler heat extra virgin olive oil, avocado oil, grape seed oil, and shea butter. Once the shea has fully melted add the coconut oil and beeswax. Stir regularly to distribute the beeswax through the mixture (it will also speed up the wax melting – I used beeswax pellets).

Transfer to bowl and let the mixture begin to cool. Once it’s below 140 degrees add the aloe and vitamin oils and essential oil (I used rosemary and orange essential oils because they are supposed to be good at relieving anxiety). To finish the cooling process you may need to put it in the fridge for a few hours.

Once the mixture has solidified and resemble Crisco shortening, use a stick blender or electric mixer and mix everything back together (the sides of the bowl will solidify faster and possibly separate from the rest).

Ladle into jars and begin using.
