The Wednesday & Thursday Post

I will not be posting tomorrow.  Some years ago, I took over the preparations for Thanksgiving and my morning will be spent roasting turkey, fixing stuffing from scratch (the one time of the year it does not come out of a StoveTop box), and oddly, making a meatloaf, which has become a tradition in my family.  My oldest nephew doesn’t like turkey.  He does love meatloaf, so we have been fixing meatloaf for at least the last 15 years (he’s twenty now, so maybe a year or so longer).  There is lots more on the menu, but no need to bore you with those details.  Let’s just go with, I will be up at 6:30 am, to begin cooking for the noon meal.  And we eat promptly at noon.

For those of you that will be celebrating “national gorge yourself on stuff that’s probably bad for you day”, Happy Thanksgiving!  For those that won’t, Happy Thursday!  I considered being worldly for this post and researching holidays that would fall on the same day, but I decided that expanding my horizons by learning more holidays that I won’t be celebrating would only serve the purpose of giving me more information to spew randomly at people.  People who probably wouldn’t appreciate it and would think I was just showing off.

After dinner comes football.  Another tradition in my household.  This year, we have three interesting games: Green Bay v. Detroit, Oakland v. Dallas, and Pittsburgh v. Baltimore.  I think the Baltimore game will be a blow-out, the other two are questionable.  Without Aaron to quarterback the Packers, they have sort of hit a slump (they tied with Minnesota last week… Holy Crap!).  The Cowboys have been playing well, the Raiders not so much, but there is a history of the Cowboys slacking when they think their opponents will be easy and when that happens, they usually get their asses handed to them.

My family doesn’t actually appreciate football all that much.  My oldest nephew is like me, he can sit down in front of a game, any game and be glued to the TV.  However, everyone else gets sort of bored by half-time of the first game.  On the flip side, we spend hours watching the Macy’s Day Parade and it loses my interest after about 20 minutes… I know, that’s so un-American, but I just don’t get into parades; not even Macy’s on Thanksgiving.  So, they will torture me with the parade and I will torture them with football.

And after all, isn’t torturing family what the holidays are all about?
