My SO falls asleep with the TV on, often times, it is on a movie channel. Sometimes during the night I become aware of his TV because the show is just… Yes, TV after dark.
I don’t know what he was watching when he fell asleep. I only know that around Midnight, there was a break in my background noise. At that time, I realized I could hear him, my mother, and my dog all snoring, practically in rhythm with each other. Which was entertaining.
Then came the screams. They emanated from the bedroom TV and were followed by some sort of strange demonic creature laughing. My SO doesn’t watch horror movies, so I couldn’t imagine what was playing on TV that would be filled with screams and demonic laughter. I had to go look. The Evil Dead was on. He was sleeping through it without any problem.
Around 1 am, screams of a different sort started. Still sleeping, my SO was completely oblivious to the fact that the campy horror flick had been followed by softcore porn. He slept through it as well.
Which meant that when I came to bed and changed the channel, I expected very little response from him. I have almost all episodes of Ancient Aliens recorded because I’m that sort of dork. I turned the volume down, as I prefer the TV much quieter, started an episode and slipped on my mask. After about twenty seconds I hear this: Really? Aliens at bed time? Dude, you just slept through The Evil Dead and softcore porn without noticing. I’m thinking Ancient Aliens is a step up. At least there isn’t much screaming… Granted, Giorgio does occasionally get very excited and talk fast and loud, but it still isn’t screaming in terror or pleasure.
How can he sleep through those and yet notice Ancient Aliens? Perhaps it is the lack of screams? Perhaps he is just hardwired to ignore such things? It’s a mystery to me. If I had been asleep during either of those, I would have woken up. I probably would have turned down the volume and changed the station too… possibly to Ancient Aliens.
