The news coverage was insane.  Every station was broadcasting about the Miami Zombie a.k.a. Causeway Cannibal.  Portions of the 18 minute attack (which was recorded) were broadcast with warnings about its graphic content.  And everyone blamed drugs; LSD, PCP, Bathsalts, Krokodil, and a host of others were all considered to be used by the attacker.

The truth is, the toxicology report of Rudy Eugene’s blood only showed trace amounts of marijuana and no other drugs.  There wasn’t a history of violent mental instability or violent anything.  He’d been arrested for a number of petty crimes, but that’s a far cry from attacking someone in broad daylight and chewing off most of their face.

Bystanders say Eugene got out of his car, nude, screaming at the victim about Eugene’s bible being stolen.  The confrontation escalated and the victim lost one eye, was blinded in his other, and lost most of his face, pieces of which were not recovered on scene (which is where the term Causeway Cannibal came from).  Police who responded reported that Eugene didn’t seem to be acting right.  He completely ignored their presence, not even looking up at that them when they shouted at him.  Sadly, Eugene was killed by the police.  There was no other choice.  He continued to attack his victim with his mouth even after the first few gunshots.

So what did make Eugene attack a homeless man?  No one knows.

And he’s not the only reported zombie in the US.  It has happened in New York City and Los Angeles.  Both of those men were also killed in order to get them to stop.  Neither of them ate the faces of their victims, but they did kill their victims in strange ways (one beat a man to death despite officers on scene hitting him with a Taser, the other used a piece of glass and injured his hands during the attack, but didn’t seem to notice).  Like Eugene, they were also naked.  Unlike Eugene, they didn’t speak.

Then there are the zombie reports that have come in and do not involve violence.  Three nights in a row, a family in New Mexico reported a strange naked man walking down their road.  The first night, the family was in their yard and the man attempted to enter, but couldn’t seem to figure out how the gate worked.  The second and third nights, he just shambled past their house.  He wasn’t seen after the third night and no arrest was made.  However, the family described him as zombie-like with a blank stare, a slack jaw, and he didn’t pick up his feet to walk.  He also didn’t speak.  A family in Florida filed a similar report about a strange man on their road one night.  Another family in Michigan gave a similar report, except they knew the “zombie.”  When police went to talk to him, he had no memory of the incident and a tox screen showed his blood was negative for drugs.

Most of these happened between 2010-2013.  I have not read of any incidents from 2014 or 2015.  But what in the world would cause these people to act like zombies?!?

I can’t imagine what would make a person behave like this if they weren’t on drugs other than plain ole insanity of some sort – some kind of psychotic break…..sure am glad I have never seen this in person!
