Learning To Format

I paid someone to format Explosive Dreams for Smashwords.  For some reason, I cannot make a linked table of contents and yes, I have read their instructions and followed them… several times.

Last night, I sat down and did a comparison… what did the formatter do that I didn’t?  The answer wasn’t obvious.  It turned out I had followed the directions correctly, there was just one little difference between hers and mine.  So I tested Tortured Dreams.  All be damned, it worked!

Now I have to decide whether I continue to pay a formatter to go through my back catalogue or do it myself?  It takes me about an hour, maybe an hour and a half (I’ve now done two books without issue).  It’s tedious and I’m not good with tedium, but… If I can do it, I feel like I should do it.  I’m sort of a DIY person.

Decisions, decisions…
