It Isn’t Writer’s Block…

There’s a great shirt that says “Writer’s Block:  When Your Imaginary Friends Stop Talking To You.”  I like that saying.  I rarely suffer from writer’s block, mostly it’s writer’s laziness.

However, as I continue to work on the next Strachan novel, Dark Legacies, a problem is forming… what happens when the wrong set of imaginary friends begin talking to you?

I fully admit that I hear voices.  They belong to my characters.  They talk to me and through me, onto the page in the form of words.  Sometimes they talk very fast, sometimes very slow, but they are always there.

As I get closer to the end of Dark Legacies, the Strachan characters talk slower, softer and the Daniels’ characters are becoming quite active and loud.  I am trying to ignore them, but it’s hard when Couvad Syndrome keeps popping into my brain.

On another note, I got notice from KDP, Amazon’s publishing platform, that they would no longer have a minimum sales requirement to direct deposit.  This is great news.  Now that $8 sitting in Amazon.de and the $9 sitting in Amazon France, etc, will be deposited in March.  Understandably, I don’t sell a ton of books in either country (although, I do better in Germany than I do in Canada, go figure that one out).  So, it will be nice to have a random deposit from those countries on occasion.

  1. Thankfully, I have never suffered from writer’s block. I might be unusual in that I never sketch out a plot, either. I just think of the end and work towards it. Most of the work is in the research. However, I do make extensive use of the ‘hook’. I tend to leave the reader dangling a bit so that he or she feels an urgent need – more like a compulsion – to read on. Having read Schreiber’s Secret, you know what I mean, Hadena..

  2. Is Dark Legacies the last Strachan novel? Maybe the characters are being quiet because they don’t know how things are going to end? This is why I really haven’t pushed myself to write – I like to call it word blockage…lol…Good luck!

    1. That is a good question… I don’t know if it is the last. It is either the last or the second to last. I know how it is supposed to end, but it isn’t working towards that ending.
