The Blurb on the Back of the Book & Voyeurism

I am preparing the write the blurbs on the backs of three books.  I hate this part of the writing process.  I’m never entirely sure what to say.  Something short, concise and appealing, I know, but what exactly?  It isn’t a book summary, it’s a book grappling hook.  And I have to grab the reader’s attention with it. I can bang out novels just as easily as breathing, but getting the reader to delve into the book with the blurb on the back, that’s my biggest failing.

I need to write the blurbs for Dark ResurrectionsThe Dysfunctional Honeymoon, and Elysium Dreams.  That’s a tall order to say the least.  On the plus side, Elysium Dreams is now more than half done.  Dark Resurrections and The Dysfunctional Honeymoon are both in the editing stages.  I hope to have covers to reveal for all three books very soon.

And I finally get blogging.  It appeals to the voyeur in us all.  A glimpse into the lives of others, it reminds me of the movie Das Leben der Anderen.  The movie was appealing for a lot of reasons, but I was discussing it with someone and they pointed out that part of the appeal was that it made us all feel “normal”.  We all like to take a glimpse into the lives of those around us, it is part of human nature.  We can’t help it.  Reading blogs is a good way for us to do it.

I’m not saying it’s bad, it was just one of those eureka moments and I had to share.

Carry on…
